Alaskan Native Americans have over 30 words for snow.  We have one, and that word is AMAZING.  Whether skiing deep powder bowls, spring corn snow, or technical ski mountaineering, at Snow Rock and Ice Adventures, we are passionate about our skiing.

We offer customized guided skiing adventures, from backcountry skiing and helicopter-based trips, to hut touring both domestically and internationally.  Backcountry skiing has also exploded into the mainstream today.  Washington, Utah and Western Canada offer great single day to multi-day ski tours.  Exploring the backcountry with an experienced certified guide is an excellent way to learn new technical skills, terrain assessment, and avalanche risk management, while enjoying an invigorating day of skiing in the mountains.

In mid-winter, Snow Rock and Ice Adventures guide Jonathon Spitzer teams up with Ruby Mountain Helicopter Skiing from January through March.  With over 270,000 acres of powder skiing, a unique experience can be found here.  During the day you will find yourself enjoying wide-open bowls, heart racing fall lines, and gladed tree powder skiing.  At the end of the day, you’ll dine, celebrate and relax in the luxurious base lodge.

The Wasatch Mountains in Salt Lake City, UT are known for, ‘the best snow on earth,’ and the skies routinely deliver to this small but complex mountain range.  These mountains are the perfect venue for single day backcountry ski adventures along with single day ski mountaineering trips.  With an airport just 30 minutes from the slopes, this is the ideal destination for a quick weekend getaway or to further build your backcountry skiing resume.

Backcountry ski hut trips are a long time European tradition.  Classic multi-day tours include the Haute Route Ski Traverse from Chamonix, France to Zermatt, Switzerland and the Berner Oberland Ski Tour in Switzerland.  With huts already in place, you can enjoy the pleasure of a light weight pack while you take in the magnificent scenery.  The huts are fully staffed and service is their top priority including breakfast, dinner and a good cup of coffee.  Both ski tours are offered April through early May.

Whether you dream of an exhilarating ski mountaineering adventure, amazing days of heli-skiing, or a fantastic multi-day hut tour around the European Alps, we can make your snow dreams come true within a fun and safe environment.

I just wanted to let you know that I had a fabulous day touring the backcountry with Jonathon yesterday (January 2008). Having used guides on a number of my mountain travels I have really come to appreciate someone with his qualities. He knows the area very well and did a superb job of adapting the itinerary to the changing conditions and presence of avalanche risk and made it a full and very satisfying day.
